This question I pose to R3V or Vets with combat experience.Say the Germans,Russians,Chinese,Zombies and U.S. govt all attack my house house at one time,I only grabbed one rifle and a bunch of ammo. How many rounds am I gonna get before I melt it down or have rounds cooking off in the chamber?I know on machine guns they swap out barrels is this just due to sustained high rate of fire?Running through several mags Mini getting hot.I seen an idiot on youtube awhile back shooting full auto AK shooting 3-4 drums in a row actually set barrel on fire.Anyway is this a consideration or no?

HAHA ......... Well, I have been under fire and had to maintain suppressive fire for extended periods of time. I have never had an assault type rifle catch on fire while doing this . As for MG's having barrels swapped out, yes they do and that is due to the fact that they put out 3,000 round per minute or some insane number like that . That kind of sustained fire will cause the barrel to become white hot and malfunction if not changed periodically.
ReplyDeleteThe MINI 14 will get really hot after 1 x30 mag but, it won't malfunction after this amount. I have put my mini's through hell and they still fired flawlessly. The AK-47 was created by Mr. Kalishnikov to never fail under any circumstances, hence it's popularity around the world. Yeah, some will malfunction but, 99% of the time the AK will never stop firing.
I really don't think you will have more time then 3 seconds should 200 armed invaders hit your house at the same time so, no you won't have a problem with lighting rounds off in the chamber haha. Realistically, if you find yourself in a firefight, you will have a lot of time to pick your shots as the more time spent with your head exposed to enemy fire means the less time you have to shoot. You'll die.
If you end up in a firefight, first control your bowels, second pick your shots CAREFULLY . Take out the heaviest and closest first and work your way through the enemy ranks. It is amazingly scary to be shot at. It is even worse to be under sustained enemy fire so, you will figure out quickly what you need to do to get the fuck out of there alive.
It is best to have a team and also smoke is your friend. If you have smoke, you can blanket the area and get the hell out carefully. If you have a team you can pick several different angles of fire to place on the enemy. If you have a couple guys or several, each take a position and fire at the enemy from all the angles you can, then they have trouble figuring out who to shoot at and may even take cover and stop shooting altogether.
Either way , unless you have an actual machine gun, you shouldn't have any issues with overheating your weapon. I will say this, if you find yourself being shot at and are outnumbered , your best course of action is to get away as quickly as possible so that you can regroup and maybe mount an ambush or some other counteroffensive.
I swear to god folks, those of you who have never been in combat or even shot at before, it is terrifying. Every time it is terrifying.Even if you have done it 100 times, it is still terrifying. You may need clean drawers or to wipe the vomit off when it's over, some even piss themselves or roll up in the fetal position and cry . BEING SHOT AT SUCKS.
You are best to conduct guerrilla ops and meet the enemy on YOUR terms, not his .

R3V,
ReplyDeleteSmoke is a great tip - adding smoke flares to my list.
I'm wondering if the suppressive fire you were taking was less effective at range due to being AKs?
Check this video (at about 1:00) on the AK accuracy at 200 yds;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6BpI3xD6h0&feature=player_embedded
I am not understanding what you meant by "less effective" when referring to the suppressive fire we took . They hit several of us during several different deployments lol .
ReplyDeleteThe video was accurate though, the AK47 is not always that accurate out past a couple hundred yards. Then again, niether is the M16 when you are taking fire . The big difference, which was shown in the video was penetration and the fact that the AK will almost never fail you while the M-16 and variants will almost always fail you when you need it most(reference: YOUR WEAPON WAS MADE BY THE LOWEST BIDDER). They jam, stovepipe and get crusty in dirty environments and malfunction.
Niether will likely catch fire during sustained fire but, I'd take a MINI-14 over an M-16 anyday, just my personal opinion. If I had to choose 1 ASSAULT rifle to take into battle, it would be an AK-47 hands down. If I had a choice of 2 assault weapons they would be AK-47 and MINI-14.
Never forget the difference between an ASSAULT RILFE and a RIFLE. Assault rifles are made to be shorter and lighter and are made to take advantage of a high rate of fire. A RIFLE is longer, heavier and reaches out farther. An M-14 or M1-A in .308 caliber is a great compromise . Also they have come up with the newer 6.5mm assault rifles (GRENDEL) and several other variants that give the ease of assault rifle carry along with distance capability.
If you are looking for smoke grenades , I use these from SHOMER TEC :
http://www.shomer-tec.com/product/commando-smoke-grenade-1431.cfm
These create 40,000 cubic feet of smoke and believe me, it's an impressive smoke screen. In summary, the videos show that the AK-47 is inaccurate but, real life combat in 85% of the rest of the world shows that it kills at least as efficiently as the M-16 or anything else, if not more efficiently. I have lost many friends to the 7.62X39 round at many different distances so, in the right hands, it is a deadly son of a bitch no doubt.
One plus for us is , our government is ordering the weapons that use .223 so, if you can find cover, you can get out alive. When they reach for the .30 cal, there isn't much to hide behind as they penetrate everything.
Good thread here !!

Good info.I think a lot of people dont realize most engagements are within a couple hundred rounds.Just remember fellas snipe from long range if possible.Or as pointed by R3V ambush at time and place of your choice if possible. But keep in mind Murphy is always there, give yourself options if possible.Your job is not to be a hero, but to elimaninate the enemy.I agree smoke is a great idea!

R3V,
ReplyDeleteI made some wrong assumptions and apologize. I hope you didn't lose anyone.
Thanks for the smoke greandes link, will get some of those.
Was at a gun show yesterday in Dale, VA and handled the newer model Mini-14 Rancher (wood stock, blued), and liked it. A couple at the show were for about $700, or $100 more than CDNN. Will look around a bit, and buy in a few months.
No apologies necessary my friend, that kind of thing happens in the military , as crappy as it is , that just is the sad fact. They made us file a will before each deployment so, what does that tell ya haha.
ReplyDeleteI know those smoke grenades are a bit pricey but, they are the best I have bought to date as far as the sheer volume of smoke they put out. I hope you are happy with them.
I remember paying around $500.00 for my ranch rifle and around $450.00 for the original version 12 years before that so, it seems they are holding the price around the same range. Since the huge upswing in firearms purchases due to Ohitler being elected, the prices are bound to go up a bit with demand. No matter what you end up spending, I feel that it will be one of the best purchases you could make and I know you'll be pleased with the MINI-14 . Here are some links to green tip AP rounds for .223 and some for incendiary .223 rounds:

Can't hurt to have some of this type of ammo on hand , just in case.
GOOD LUCK BRO !

Back to communications between squad members. Here is an example of two way radios with earbud/headset capability .
ReplyDeletehttp://www.twowayradiosfor.com/store/Talkabout-Radios/T9650RCAMO_Talkabout_Radio__Set_of_2_p70.html
Even though they might say "34 mile range" , that is horseshit. You will be lucky to get 1/2 mile range in a wooded area but, this is merely a way to keep in touch with your teammate during bad times when screaming "HEY LOU, WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU" will get you compromised and killed.
This one has a set of 2 radios and all the trimmings for $99.99 . There are much more expensive radios and kits out there but, being as we are mostly on a budget, this is a feasible option.
