If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.”

1000 yds garand

  1. OMG I SOOO ENJOYED WATCHING THAT !!!!This is a perfect example of the actual distance 1,000 yards is . Watch closely at how high above the target this guy has to shoot!

Remember , this guy is not using some highly modified , new fangled sniper rifle , he is using a straight out of WWII Garand ! As wonderful as the rifle is , it is up to the AMMUNITION and the SNIPER to hit the target.

This is one reason we spent so much time at the range while in Sniper School. Each rifle is different and each requires it's own individual "DOPE" to be found. You must learn your individual rifle's range and how it shoots at each level of ranging from 100 yards to 1,000 yards.

Your rifle WILL shoot differently then mine, even if they are the exact same brand, model and 1 serial number difference . In the CORPS we learned that a rifle , in order to be used effectively , must become a part of you, an extension of yourself. Only then will you truly KNOW YOUR RIFLE .

Ya, I know , sounds ridiculous but, when you depend on your rifle to save your life and the lives of your fellow Marines , it becomes extremely sound advice .

This was wonderful to wake up to China , THANKS MAN !!

  3. Yeah , 5 years ago I found an M1 GARAND at a sporting goods store . It was Dutch with mostly new American made parts but, Dutch armory stamps on the stock . $349.00 out the door .

It wouldn't cycle more than 1 round so, I bought a new operating rod, spring and several other parts before it finally worked . $1,150.00 into it now including original purchase price........... I love it but, I fancy a bolt gun for sniping , just my preference.

The lack of BLOW BACK cycling on a bolt action rifle provides the ability to stay on target more efficiently as it doesn't jerk so much and affords quick re acquisition of target . Just my training and preference.

  4. Besides big 50,what would your personal favorite round for say 800 to 1000yds be? I am considering several. 06,300mag,or possibly something like one of lazzeroni's.would prefer of the shelf ammo I don't handload, yet.

  5. I personally prefer 30.06 or .308 BUT, that is ONLY because I am familiar with both and have utilized each in similar conditions and situations. 30.06 is a bitch to dope in at 1,000 yards because of the trajectory of that round, it drops, A LOT , I mean A LOT at distance . So does the .308 . Plain fact ---> 30.06 hits harder , further out then .308 but, not by a whole bunch . Just enough to do the job.

I would highly recommend .300 win.mag ! I do not own one but, I have used a prototype sniper rifle in the Corps called MCRT chambered in .300 win mag and oh my god , what a beautiful thing !

It gets out there fast , hits hard and has a relatively flat trajectory. All in all I would consider the .300 Win. Mag a superior sniping weapon. I might have to get one now ;)
